The Glory of the Lord Shone. The brightness and glory of God startled the shepherds. May we be ready to receive God's glory when it appears in our lives.

And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

Shepherds Keeping Watch. While the world slept, humble shepherds were abiding in the field. They were the first to hear the news.

And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

No Room, but God's Way. Though the inn was full, the Saviour was born and laid in a manger. His lowliness reveals the height of His love.

And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

​The Days Accomplished. All the waiting of the prophets, all the journeying, led to this moment. The time was fulfilled.

To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

The Expectation. To be taxed with Mary, his espoused wife, as she was "great with child." The hour is close, and our anticipation grows.

And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

The Journey Begins. Joseph went up to the city of David, fulfilling the prophecy. The long, necessary journey to Bethlehem reminds us that God's plan is meticulous.
